I took this picture about seven months ago with a friend from work. It was the first time that I was able to get out and photograph something in motion and not use the auto setting. I did use the the action mode though. I think that I snapped about 50 or 60 pictures that day and this was one of the few that turned out.

With PE6 I added this layer filter to make the rider "glow". I have seen this affect use with black and white pictures as well. Leave me a comment and tell me what you think.

This and That

I do not have new pictures to post today because I have been very busy at work and home this weekend. I have been thinking a lot about file storage and organization though. I have also joined a photography club that meets in Colorado Springs.

I have not attended any meetings yet but I will tell you what I think after I go. The first meeting that I will be able to attend is Feb 6th. The group is having meetings before that to go to Pueblo and photograph Eagle Days and also to Manitou for a local parade.

The group meets about twice a month and has roughly 30 members. At the meetings they share their photographs and someone usually speaks. My first meeting will be about printing photos, what printer to use and what kind of ink depending on the quality and effects you want. They will also be talking about still life photography.

As for the RAW format I think that I am going to try to stick with it and get more organization to my save pictures. The RAW will allow me more options and flexibility in the future. I don't want to get down the line and regret loosing image quality because I was taking pictures in the JPEG format.

I hope to have more pictures up mid week.

Compare for Yourself

The before picture is on top and the after picture is second. Take a look for yourself. I think that the "after" picture brings out a lot more of the detail in the clouds and adds some saturation to the blue color in the sky.

I have been working with Photoshop Elements 6 and using their organizer. Their program is well designed but I still don't know enough to use it effectively. If you move pictures on your hard drive and not through PE 6 then the path association is lost. You would think that with digital photography organization would become easier but taking pictures a couple days a week fills space fast and becomes a organization nightmare.

I have been thinking about posting some of my pictures in other places on the web but I don't know enough about copyright yet. I posted the pictures here smaller so when enlarged the detail is lost. Right now in RAW format my pictures are about 13MB. Shooting in Raw allows more exposure control but I think I will go back to JPEG and bracket more shots.

Photoshop the Moon

I think that an important part of photography is to take the picture right in the first place. I am not very good at that yet so I use Photoshop Elements 6.0 to touch up some of my photographs. I shoot some of my pictures in RAW format so I can work with exposures when I get home and then I touch them up. I have a picture here that I took on my way into work today. I have posted it here in its original condition and sometime in the next couple of days I will post what I have done to the same picture with Elements.

I am hoping to have some new pictures of my nephews and niece soon because I could use some serious work in taking good portraits.

(This is what I get to drive by every morning on my way to work. How lucky can one guy get?)

Fiery Morning

I took this picture while I was walking the dog one morning. It looks like it is a picture of a forest fire but it is just steam from Intel.

Starting Fresh

This is my first post of many. I will be posting my latest photography and updating my family happenings. Feel free to email me with any suggestions.
